ASHTROBOT Interview + Free Track & Music Videos

ASHTROBOT SC WICKED

————————————————–

ASHTROBOT is a producer and RIZO resident DJ. The entity known as ASHTROBOT (sounded out just ash-tro-bot) has a fine-tuned skill for maximizing delayed gratification within the scope of his productions. He isn’t scared to go all-out-grimey but his own kingdom is Purple and there he lounges on a throne of bass, rhythm and melodies. This 22-year-old next level space creature didn’t come to his present status instantaneously – it’s been a road of musical diversity. Ash founded D.R.E.A.M. (Dubstep Rules Everything Around Me) Brigade in December 2009, which evolved into an underground independent label. Their EP “21st Century Electric Church Music” dropped on iTunes in July of last year. He has been working vigorously lately on several projects and were lucky to be able to sit down with him for a Q&A session. Scroll to the bottom of the interview for the FREE TRACK “WICKED STYLE” and enjoy some of ASHTROBOT’s music videos.

- Tell us a little bit about yourself.
My name is Ash Riser, aka ASHTROBOT, I’m 22 years old, from Los Angeles. I got started into the dubstep movement when i was 16, listing to dubstep allstars .v1 and 2 at work and shit, going to shows and shit with a fake ID. Haha, It was exciting, something new. I started dabbling in production at 20 and reached out to the RIZO becoming their first bass music resident at 21. My affiliations are D.R.E.A.M. BRIGADE// RIZO // TDE .

- What kind of music did you grow up listening to, and do you think it influences you in production today?
I grew up listening to classic rock hip hop and everything but metal and country. Having an open mind to music keeps barriers non existent.
Zeppelin, Hendrix, Propeller Heads, The Clash, Misfits, Descendants, The Strokes, Biggie, MF Doom, Madlib, Alchemist, just to name a few you know? And hell yeah, if it wasn’t for that my production/vocals and DJing would be wack haha.

- You not only produce Dubstep, tell us about your other projects in various genres.
I sing and play most instruments, guitar, bass, piano, and drums. I was in a rock band called Pistol Pistol for 5 years before I started rapping as Ashtrobot, then started producing. I’ve been featured on albums by Kendrick Lamar, Ab-soul, and other acts. Im currently working on Monsta squad, a D&B influenced hip hop act I’m working on with Richie Stites (who produced Outkast, Michael Jackson, Transplants, etc) annnnd I’m also currently wrapping up my new project with my vocals over original production, I’m really proud of that.
It’s been a Lon time coming, and it’s gonna hit hard. Look out for that.

- Any upcoming shows or projects?
Man I have a bunch of shows in Ohio, Arizona, Canada and Colorado coming up again. Booking agents/ Promoters holler!! Haha Monsta Squad should be out this summer as well as my project “Raw Talent” influenced by my boys at IMKING. More beat tapes trap dub hip hop. All that. My goal is to be like Pharrell meets Jack White or someone like that, And a little bit of Ashtro haha.

- Where do you call home? How do you feel about the bass scene in your city?
Los Angeles is my home. Born and raised on the 310, i love it here The bass scene is dope. Its a group of people coming together and trying to make their mark on the culture. I just don’t dig people who push people out and get cocky cause their in the scene and doing it, stay humble, no one wants to hear that shit.
